A: Please, tell us more about yourself. What brought you into art?

M: Art has always been a fundamental part of my life, even from a young age. I have always had a deep appreciation for creativity and self-expression. Growing up, I found solace and joy in exploring various art forms and experimenting with different mediums. However, it was during my university years that I truly discovered the transformative power of art.

I was captivated by the ability of art to evoke emotions, challenge perspectives, and communicate ideas that words often fail to convey. The freedom and limitless possibilities of abstract art particularly intrigued me. It allowed me to break free from the constraints of representation and delve into the realm of pure expression.

A: What inspires you the most?

M: The natural world is a boundless source of inspiration for me. The breathtaking beauty of landscapes, the intricate patterns found in flora and fauna, and the play of light and shadow— all of these elements influence my creative process. Living in Manly, Northern Beaches, I am fortunate to be surrounded by stunning coastal scenery, vibrant sunsets, and the ever-changing colors and textures of the ocean. Nature's harmony, energy, and organic forms find their way into my artwork, reflecting my connection to the environment.

A: Do you have any specific rituals while working (creating)?

M: My rituals while working and creating art involve preparation and set-up, mindful centering, exploratory sketching, incorporating music as a companion, intuitive painting, and reflection and review. These practices help me establish a focused and creative mindset, allowing me to delve into the artistic process with intention and inspiration. By following these rituals, I create a conducive environment that nurtures my creativity and enables me to produce authentic and meaningful abstract artworks.

A: What would you recommend to someone who's new to art (an artist or just an admirer), what to begin with?

M: For someone new to art, I would recommend starting with exploration and experimentation. Begin by immersing yourself in various art forms, styles, and mediums. Visit art galleries, museums, and online platforms to discover different artists and their works. Try your hand at different techniques and mediums through simple exercises or art classes. Allow yourself the freedom to make mistakes and embrace the learning process. The key is to cultivate curiosity and passion for art while finding your own unique expression.
